AN OVERVIEW OF USMLE for beginners
USMLE-United States Medical Licensing Examination is a professional exam for doctors before being permitted to practice in United States .
Step 1assesses the understanding of basic concepts for the practice of medicine.It covers the following subjects:
Anatomy Physiology Biochemistry Microbiology, PathologyGeneticsBehavioral medicine biostatistics, HistologyImmunologyPharmacologyEthics, Molecular Biology and Epidemiology
The scores are reported with a three digit score and a two digit score. Currently, a score of 185 is required to pass the exam, which corresponds to a two digit score of 75. The average score is approximately 215. Competitive residency programs usually accept applications with higher Step 1 scores.Step 1 is considered the most difficult step among all three steps.Step 1 useful links
USMLE Step 2is meant to assess the ability to apply medical knowledge and understanding of clinical science essential for provision of patient care under supervision.It consists of two parts: Step 2 Ck and Step 2 CS
USMLE Step 2-CK is a 9 hour exam consisting of 8 blocks of 46 or 47 questions each. The subjects included in this exam are clinical sciences like Internal MedicineSurgeryPediatricsPsychiatry Obstetrics & GynecologySTEP 2 CK Useful Links
USMLE Step 2-CS is meant to assess clinical skills of the applicant through simulated patient encounters. Each examinee has 15 minutes to complete history taking and clinical examination for each patient, and then 10 minutes to write a patient note to describe the findings, differential diagnosis and of initial tests. There are total of 12 such patient encounters.
